The mission of the Georgia Gravestone Photo Project is to capture and archive digital images of our ancestors’ gravestones. As decades pass, many inscriptions are becoming difficult to read; these archived images preserve these vital records for family history researchers worldwide. We are a free historical preservation resource, not a genealogy research service.
To help us maintain a high-quality archive, please keep the following tips in mind when sharing your photos:
Protect Privacy: To respect the privacy of living individuals, please do not transcribe or list names of those who are still living, even if their name appears on a shared family headstone. If you have a photo that includes both deceased and living individuals, we welcome the image, but ask that you only submit the records for those who have passed.
Focus on Preservation: To keep our archive consistent, we only accept photographs of the headstones themselves rather than personal family portraits.
Prioritize Clarity: For the benefit of researchers, please ensure your photos are clear and legible. Close-up shots work best, as distant or blurry images can become difficult to read when enlarged.
Respect Original Work: To honor the dedication of our volunteers, please do not upload photos from other websites here, or repost our archive's images to other databases.
We are currently seeking volunteers to help take and upload photos for many counties. If you have an interest in volunteering for this rewarding part-time activity please contact us.
