James Michael Powers of Prattville, Alabama died Saturday in a Veteran's Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama, following an illness of about two years.
Mr. Powers, age 43, was a native of Carroll county, son of the late John Daniel and Gertrude Bell Powers.
He had lived in Rome until about four years ago, when he moved to Prattville. He was a Special Agent with the Pennsylvania Lumbermen's Mutual Insurance Company. Mr. Powers was well-known in Alabama in the insurance field and was past president and secretary-treasure of the Alabama 1752 Insurance Club.
He was a member of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church in Rome and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, the former Louise Herndon; three daughters, Misses Teresa, Janie and Suellen Powers, all of Prattville, Ala.; six sisters, Mrs. Tommy Hubbard, Cedartown, Mrs. Clarence Azar, Decatur, Mrs. Grady Fields, Smyrna, Mrs. Rayford Walker, Mrs. Inez Traylor and Mrs. Byron Lambert, all of Carrollton; four brothers, C. L. Powers, Macon, E. G. Powers, Carrollton, J. W. Powers, Rockmart and Walter Powers, Dallas.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Nov. 29, 1965 at 2 o'clock from the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. J. O. Crabb, Rev. Herbert Cole and Rev. L. H. Brazell officiating.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Nell Causey and Mr. Ralph Johnson. Pallbearers were: Johnny Powers, Oliver Traylor, Clifford Powers, Wayne Powers, Billy Hubbard, Jerry Lambert and Randall Walker.
Interment in Bethesda Cemetery.
Almon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
